SKOPE NEWS FOR APRIL 4, 2014

WIRE: NEW SINGLE BY THEE OH SEES

Our lad John P. Dwyer has been lancing eardrums with Thee Oh Sees in an ever escalating flurry of records for the past 6 years. Since the release of “The Master’s Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In” announced a new loud era and excepting a few momentary detours into home-baked territory (“Dog Poison” and “Castlemania” for example), JPD and company have pummeled a bit harder each time out, cemented their reputation as a live force to be reckoned with, and have left legions sweaty and bruised in the process. Late last year, after years of relentlessly touring the world, the word got out…Dwyer’s moving to LA (fear not, still California!) and Thee Oh Sees are taking a much needed hiatus with a shifting of gears ahead and a new album on the way. This is that album.

In truth, they’re more entertaining than that.”

RABBL RAISES $775K IN SEED FUNDING

RABBL, the leading U.S. service for crowdsourcing concerts, has raised a total of $775,000 from investors, led by a $340,000 investment from Foundry Group’s FG Angels Syndicate. Foundry Group reviews a large number of investment opportunities among early-stage information technology, Internet and software startups. The investment will be put towards expanding RABBL’s social booking platform and increasing artist outreach activities.

Risk is the core business problem in the live music business. How many tickets can a band sell? What towns and venues should a band play?   For millions of artists and venues, there are no easy answers to these questions.   RABBL empowers artists by letting fans answer these questions, by reserving tickets in advance to potential shows. If enough tickets are reserved to meet the artist’s goal, then the show is booked. This helps venues take a chance on new bands, it helps artists to decide to play in new places, and it gives fans a real chance, for the first time, to be involved in decision-making about where an artist performs.     The $775k investment will be put towards expanding the social booking platform to offer more support and options for venues, promoters, and artists.

WIRE: NEW VIDEO BY MYSTIC BRAVES

It’s no wonder why The Zombies asked Mystic Braves to open their L.A. show last year. While the hometown favorites were barely even a blip on their respective parents’ radars when Odessey and Oracle was released, the psych-steeped five-piece sounds like they stepped straight out of the ’60s. And not in an obvious, someone’s-been-studying-their Nuggets-comps-until-the-grooves-give-out sort of way, either. We’re talking a richer, fuller plot of references (garage-borne greats like The Electric Prunes, The Chocolate Watchband and The Music Machine) that filter the band’s hook-centric purple haze through robust organ rolls, runaway guitar riffs, heat-stroked horns and a rhythm section that can only be described as “restless”.

WIRE: NEW VIDEO BY EMILY WOLFE

Austin’s rising dream rock singer/songwriter/guitarist Emily Wolfe teams up with American Songwriter today to premiere her live video for the unreleased new song “Violent Veins.” Wolfe describes the meaning of her lyrics for this new song explaining, “Life imitates art to me and ‘Violent Veins’ is a specific example of that. I have always had a thing with accidentally breaking jewelry given to me by a significant other and, in retrospect, I’ve come to realize how predictive that can be. It’s also about how genetics run through your veins. Sometimes connecting with those genetics is the only way you know how to get a passionate feeling out of your body – that’s what this song is all about.”
