Blog Entry: ***MUSIC IS A BUSINESS, JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE*** When you work for a day at Whatever job you may hold at the time, you expect to get a paycheck for the time that you've worked. Music is no different. All these people who email me asking me to work for them, less then 1% of them actually feel that I need to get paid for the work that I do. They get surprised that they should have to pay anything for someone working to help their career. It's always 'when I blow up you can get a cut'. Try using this same approach when you get your cd's pressed up. Tell the guy who makes the paper inserts that he should run his printing presses for free and when you blow up you'll give him a cut of what you make. Use the same strategy with you cell phone company - tell them that you need to make free phone calls to call music industry people, but when you blow up you'll break them off a chunk. Just like you, I have bills. This recession economy has been tough on me just like the rest of y'all. To promote artists takes time, and therefore it costs money. I have clients who pay me every month to help work their projects - promote their songs, get features from other artists, etc. If you don't want to put money into your career, then your career is never gonna go anywhere - guaranteed. To get to where I am I paid publicists, I paid for advertising, I did deals with people where everyone was made money in a short period of time.
