“Low (Feat. T-Pain),” the blockbuster hit single from Poe Boy/Atlantic recording artist Flo Rida, has hit #1 on this week’s CHR/Top 40 national airplay chart.  The track’s massive mainstream success is indeed momentous – “Low” is officially the first-ever debut single by a rap artist to reach the top spot in chart history, as well as only the fourth rap title to ascend to #1 since 2005. 

Flo Rida – whose hugely anticipated debut album, “MAIL ON SUNDAY,” is set to street on March 18^th – has instantly catapulted the upper ranks of hip-hop superstardom. 

Along with its CHR/Top 40 triumph, “Low” continues to light it up at Rhythmic outlets nationwide, maintaining the #1 airplay ranking for 8 uninterrupted weeks and counting. The track’s success marks the longest-reigning debut track from a male artist since Nelly’s classic “(Hot S**t) Country Grammar” held the top spot for 10 weeks in 2000. 

The Carol City, FL native will celebrate the amazing accomplishment of “Low” with an eagerly awaited live performance on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, scheduled for tonight, February 6^th (check local listings). 

In addition, Flo Rida will appear on MTV’s TRL on Wednesday, February 13^th. Both appearances come in tandem with the single’s inclusion on this week’s Atlantic Records release, “STEP UP 2 THE STREETS – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK,” the musical companion to the upcoming Touchstone Pictures dance film which debuts in theaters nationwide on February 14^th.

The sun shines in Metal as the two most influential brothers reunite after 10 years of silence. Max and Iggor Cavalera have formed the Cavalera Conspiracy and will release their first album INFLIKTED to the world March 25^th, 2008 on Roadrunner Records. “Cavalera Conspiracy is about a sense of being unleashed,” says vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera. “You bottle a monster for 10 years and then let it out.  It’s explosive, and we waited a long time for this beast to be set free.”

 

What all Sepultura fans have hoped and waited for finally happened on August 17^th 2006 in Tempe Arizona. Max and Iggor, the Cavalera brothers, finally reunited.  Soulfly played a show in memory of Dana Wells (D-Low), the stepson of Max and son of Gloria Cavalera, whose death changed the life of the family forever. However, this brought back the force of friendship and family when Iggor Cavalera stepped on stage, almost in secret. He joined the band in the drum jam and in continuation he took a seat behind the drums. With the first sounds of “Attitude” the crowd realized who was keeping time behind Max and the band. They went wild. “Once we hit the first note, it felt like a bomb had dropped on stage,” exclaims Iggor. “From that moment on, I knew we needed to do something together musically.”

 

This amazingly phenomenal show will go down in every heavy metal encyclopedia as the historic moment when the brothers Cavalera joined forces again. “There was over 10 years of not seeing or talking to each other at all, which is a long ass time,” explains Max. That’s what made it more special when it did finally happen.

 

Cavalera Conspiracy consists of Max Cavalera (vocals/rhythm guitar), Iggor Cavalera (drums/percussion), Marc Rizzo (lead/rhythm guitars), and Joe Duplantier (bass). INFLIKTED is the long-awaited moment providing Metal a new era with the Cavalera Brothers. In the veins of Sepultura with a twist, the band turns back to heavier and darker material giving their fans exactly what they have been waiting for. Max’s vocals explodes onto the 11 tracks of INFLIKTED joined with the pounding of Iggor’s drum beats, Marc Rizzo’s shred slicing guitar and Joe Duplantier thumping bass lines. “When I listen to the album, it sounds old school, but new in its own way,” explains Iggor. “It’s a mix of both worlds.”

 

Recording took place this past July at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles, with Logan Mader (former Machine Head guitarist) and Lucas Banker of the Dirty Icon production team. Rex Brown (Pantera, Down) cameos on bass on Ultra-Violent, and Black Ark features a collaboration with Max, Joe and Richie Cavalera (Incite) all on vocals.

 

Tours dates for the Cavalera Conspiracy to be announced in spring. INFLIKTED is currently scheduled for release via Roadrunner Records internationally on March 24th and in North America on March 25th.

 

Air Traffic's Fractured Life is a debut album of brilliant, occasionally brutal, mood music. From the sexual euphoria of "Charlotte" to the bleak introspection of "Empty Space", its mindscape is one we have all experienced, or soon will. By turns anguished and exuberant, cocksure and crestfallen, it is rock lived at a pitch of bi-polar intensity that reminds you why you got into this stuff in the first place. Because life is fractured, actually, and its highs and lows have a disconcerting way of interrupting each other. (Which is one reason why Fractured Life makes its point - all 12 of them - and leaves in 41 minutes.)

It takes a particular sort of outsider mentality to create music of such rare accuracy and honesty. And, sure enough, Fractured Life is emphatically not the sound of a scene. Air Traffic are from nowhere, man. As far as they relate to any other bands you might have listened to recently, they are a shining example of the West by South West maverick tendency. Just as the small UK towns of Abingdon begat Radiohead and Teignmouth reared Muse, so Air Traffic are an unlikely product of Bournemouth, a Wessex border town on the British Costa Geriatrica with no rock heritage whatsoever. As the group's singer and main songwriter Chris Wall puts it; "There are no music venues, and absolutely no pressure to sound like anyone else. So you have the potential to develop your own style."

Wall's style was fed initially by his Celtic roots. Both his parents are Irish born and bred, and his uncle, Jimmy McCarthy, who still lives in Cork, is a well known folk singer. "When I was 6, I so wanted to be him," Wall recalls. He was a precociously musical child - learning the piano and guitar by ear and playing flute and saxophone in the Southern Youth Orchestra - but he had no musical ambition. "I preferred to hang out on the beach and surf. I never went to gigs, or bought much music."

Wall got inveigled into a band after his first public performance in 2003 at a school concert. His solo rendition of "Go To Sleep" by Radiohead attracted the attention of drummer David Jordan and guitarist Tom Pritchard. Air Traffic duly began as a sideline to A levels and only got serious during Wall's gap year travels in 2005 when, out of nostalgic curiosity, he downloaded some of his band's early songs while holed up in a surf town on the coast of Queensland, Australia. It was a defining moment. "I was listening to "Charlotte" as if I'd never heard it before and Dave and I hadn't written it. And I realized it was a special song."

Once the decision to re-engage had been made - and a new bassist Jim Maddock recruited - Air Traffic travelled very far, very fast. It all happened during the academic year when they were up in London, ostensibly studying, in reality, investing their student loans in rehearsal and recording time. Within months an Air Traffic demo provoked a major label bidding war. Many of the songs on Fractured Life, like "Never Even Told Me Her Name," describe the feelings of breathless anticipation the band registered once the four 21 year olds sensed their career taking off. Another of the songs charting the band's ascent was "Shooting Star," a sublime melody poised on the edge of a maelstrom of rock and roll theatrics. As the industry attention became more intense, Wall and Jordan penned "I Can't Understand."

After the band were signed to Astralwerks/EMI, Air Traffic set up in Rockfield Studios to begin working on their their new album. Soon after, news arrived of a fatal car crash in Canada which killed a close of friend of Wall's girlfriend. "I never really knew her, but I could feel my girlfriend's grief, and the sense of helplessness was overwhelming". This swiftly inspired the album's most poignant and beautiful moment, the aching piano ballad, "Empty Space." The 2 month Rockfield experience was, overall, cathartic. "It made us focus on what we do, and also appreciate how different we are from other bands." That emergent self-realization is unforgettably expressed in "No More Running Away," a heaven-bound anthemic chant earthed throughout by tribal drum. That sense of empowering otherness found voice in the album's title track, the last song to be written and, like "Empty Space," a haunting testimony to Wall's growing confidence as a chronicler of complicated emotions.

The challenge now is to communicate them to a world which knows of Air Traffic only as the authors of the riotous indie anthem, "Charlotte," and the rollicking "Just Abuse Me." "People who come to watch us play really participate now. They're all shouting and singing along. It's up to us to take our audience somewhere else."

Just watch them go. In a world in which it is increasingly easy to confuse things that sound urgent with things that are actually important, Air Traffic are, triumphantly, both.

Hip-hop legend Brother J has checked in from the studio with an update regarding the X-Clan’s plans for 2008. X-Clan have are currently preparing another monumental hip-hop release of knowledge and wisdom for late 2008 release through Suburban Noize Records.

"We have been working on a new album, along with a new DVD release that starts to explain some of the history of X-Clan," says group founding father Brother J, offering a glimpse into what the hip-hop legends have cooking for 2008. "This is one of the first DVD's that will bring some of the history down as we start to gather some of the original members to tell their story. We are getting some things in line that are of the master caliber we want to present. Give peace and blessings to everyone. Respect."

X-Clan, one of the genres most powerful and influential hip-hop crews ever, returned in 2007 after nearly a decade-long hiatus with their Suburban Noize debut, "Return From Mecca". X-Clan have also announced a headlining performance in San Francisco, CA on Feb 15th, 2008 with Humboldt County’s finest hip-hop duo Potluck.

We've been holding it down for a couple of years now, supporting some powerful movements and we're looking forward to breaking out in the Bay area," says Brother J. Music and TV superstar Snoop Dogg announced today that the 6th annual Snoop Bowl will be taking place on February 2, 2008. The annual game, hosted by Snoop Dogg himself, will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Matt Leinart Foundation www.mattleinartfoundation.org. The game will be held at Hamilton High School in Chandler, AZ.

Snoop Bowl VI will feature the Snoop Dogg All-Stars, a youth football team from California coached by Snoop Dogg, against local Arizona youth football players. The game will be held the day before Super Bowl XXII, and is expected to draw many fans. Matt Leinart, Heisman Trophy Winner and Arizona Cardinals Quarterback, will be in attendance, representing his charitable foundation. The Hamilton High School band will be performing at halftime.

"For five years now we have had a great time organizing and preparing for the Snoop Bowl. It gives the kids a reason to work and play hard throughout the season, knowing that it all culminates on this day," says Snoop Dogg. "It is about so much more than the game, the Snoop Youth Football League gives kids hope and meaning outside of just the sport."

The Snoop Dogg All-Stars are made up of kids who participate in the Snoop Youth Football League, a football league funded by Snoop Dogg and comprised of over 3,000 kids in the Greater Los Angeles area. Snoop Dogg founded the league in 2005 in order to provide at-risk youth an affordable way to play football. Kids who participate must maintain strict academic requirements to remain eligible. Coach Snoop even provides insurance to each participant free of cost.
